What is Open Graph?

The Open Graph protocol was originally introduced by Facebook in 2010 to allow any web page to become a rich object in a social graph. This means that when someone shares a link to your website on Facebook, LinkedIn, Discord, or Slack, the social platform reads your Open Graph tags (like og:image or og:title) and generates a beautiful, clickable "card" with an image and a description, rather than just displaying a plain blue link.

Similarly, Twitter uses its own "Twitter Cards" markup which functions almost identically, providing rich media previews whenever URLs are tweeted.
